The article is devoted to the results of a sociological survey of Saint Petersburg students about their awareness of Lutheranism, conducted in 2021. In modern Russia, Lutherans are a significant part of the population, united in six church organizations, but their doctrine, rituals and activities are little known to the average person. The survey was devoted to identifying students’ awareness of the basics of Lutheran doctrine, their knowledge of Lutheran rituals, as well as the respondents’ attitudes towards Luther ans. An analysis of the responses revealed that respondents were ignorant of Lutheran doctrine and rituals: students do not have a clear idea of this denomination, limiting themselves to memories of two Lutheran sacraments. Some respondents have a false idea that Russian Lutherans use the Bible in a foreign language, German or Finnish. Despite the fact that sociologically Lutherans in Russia are a religious minority, they are perceived as related to the majority Orthodox confession. This allows us to conclude that respondents have a neutral-positive attitude towards Lutherans.
